Down by the river in the full sun light
We took a little trip to visit some of our best friends from vet school. When I was thinking about this post and the recap of our trip, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song, Fishing In the Dark just popped into my head....
Spring is almost over and the summer's come
And the days are gettin' long
Waited all winter for the time to be right, just to take you along
Baby get ready......
And it don't matter if we sit forever and the fish don't bite
Jump in the river and cool ourselves from the heat of the night
Baby get ready...........ooooooooooooo
You and me go fishin' in the dark......
Our trip was to a sleepy little town in southern CA (almost to Mexico) that hugs the CO river after it leaves Lake Havasu before dumping into the Gulf Of Mexico. The AZ and CA state lines actually run through the middle of the river. Mr. Pat, Chris' dad has a great house on the river and so graciously allowed us to "take it over" for a few days. This was a special trip because we were able to reunite with several of our best friends from vet school. They are just those friends that you can go 1, 2, 3 and 4 years without seeing and still take off in conversation like we have been together for years. It was such a special trip. The drive was long (10hours to be exact) but well worth it! Colby did very well in the car (we maximized sleeping time by leaving at 3am) and really enjoyed the water, sand, sun and other kids on the trip. He was such a trooper!
Although we didn't go "fishin" in the dark, we defiantly jumped into the river to cool off each day. Chris and Becca had a great boat to play on and Mr. Pat had a pair of Sea Doos' which equals way too much fun for 4 days! The food was awesome, the beer cold and the sun bright. What else can you ask for? Luke was able to knee board and successfully got up on a slalom water ski. I briefly tried to wake board.....but need A LOT more practice and Colby played in the water and built sand castles. We came home with a few bruises (which means we did it right) and many memories to last us until the next "reunion" of friends. Thanks so much to Chris, Becca and Pat Huth for their planning and generosity!
